Teaching English and American Culture
in China 2008

Enjoy the opportunity of a lifetime!

  • teach English and American culture for approximately three weeks during July 2008
  • experience the splendid Chinese culture through interaction with Chinese people and visits to wonderful historical sites
  • witness an Asian country going through a dynamic transformation to a world economy

Program Description

This program is designed to bring native English speakers to China to teach English to Chinese students ranging from about elementary through junior high school. Your role will be to teach our American culture and to build students’ confidence in speaking English. During this program, you will have your own classes of 25 students each and a curriculum outlining the materials and topics for all sessions. In addition, you will participate with the students in several cultural activities.

Program Requirements

To qualify for the program you must

  • Be native English speaker and a college graduate. Teaching experience preferred.
  • Be able to teach classes 5-hours daily for five or six days per week depending on school assignment.
  • Be a flexible team player with a positive attitude and cultural tolerance.
  • Be able to attend two teaching training sessions in the spring.
  • Be in good physical and mental health with your own health and travel insurance.

Program Compensation

  • Free roundtrip airfare from LAX to Shanghai
  • Free ground transportation to school location
  • Free room and board throughout the teaching duration
  • Free weekend excursion during the teaching period

Program Fees - $350

This includes application, placement, materials, training, and orientation.

Program Tour Extension

Two-to-three day excursions to Beijing and Shanghai will be offered prior to and/or following the program. Approximate additional cost for both will be around or under $500.
